June 28, 7:30 pm: Marcin Wasilewski Trio at the Triple Door

Wasilewski Trio

The Triple Door presents a concert by The Marcin Wasilewski Trio, one of the most acclaimed and unique jazz formation in Poland. The Trio exists for over twenty years and for 15 years they regularly performed with Tomasz Stanko. Besides recoding with Stanko, they also toured the world and recorded with many other outstanding European jazz musicians. Their last CD is Spark of Life (2014).

 

Where: The Triple Door in Seattle; tickets $20 &  $23; Door opens at 6 pm, dinner available. The Trio will also perform at the Polish Hall in Portland on June 30, 2016.

June 25, 7 pm: Biesiada Concert W Saskim Ogrodzie at the Polish Cultural Center

The Polish Choir Vivat Musica invites everyone to a Biesiada concert W Saskim Ogrodzie featuring old urban folklore songs from Warsaw as well as a mixture of other old favorites. This will be another great sing-along evening with with the choir and guest performers Jerzy Staszak, Ziomek Pawluskiewicz and Briana Atwell. The Polish Home restaurant will be open from 5:30 pm.

June 18, 11 am: Polish Book Club Meeting at the Green Lake Library

The book for the meeting is again Nic zwyczajnego. O Wisławie Szymborskiej by Michał Rusinek, published by Znak in 2015. Mr. Rusinek, 44, was Ms. Szymborska's secretery for 15 years; he is also a translator and author of several children books. Nic zwyczajnego is his personal take at a biography of the famous poetess and Nobel prize winner with whom he enjoyed a great rapport.

This is an open meeting, drop by even if you haven't read the book.

 

Where: at the Green Lake public library in Seattle 11 am - 12:15 pm; admission free, in Polish

June 12, 9 am: Euro Cup Poland vs. N. Ireland at Sebi's

Sebi's Bistro invites all Polish soccer fans to watching Poland's opening game of the 2016 Euro Cup against Northern Ireland. This is the first game of Group C that also includes the perennial favorite, Germany, as well as Ukraine. The Cup is in France this year and the game is in Nice. The game is at 9 am PST, the Bistro will open the door at 8:30 am.

 

Where: at Sebi's Bistro in Seattle; admission free - Polish beer and food available aplenty!

June 5, 8:30 pm: Movie Body by Malgorzata Szumowska at SIFF

The Seattle International Film Festival presents the movie Body / Ciało directed by Małgorzata Szumowska. This 2015 morbidly funny film is not afraid of finding humor in the character's spiritual crisis in a manner of contemporary Grimm tale. Ms. Szumowska made her name with her 2008 movie 33 Scenes from Life that garnered a lot of international awards.

 

Where: on May 20 at 6:30 pm at Lincoln Square Cinemas, on May 24 at 9 pmat AMC Pacific Place 11 and also on June 5 at 8:30 pm at SIFF Cinema Uptown; tickets $13 / $11

June 2 & 4: Movie The Innocents by Anne Fontaine at SIFF

The Seattle International Film Festival presents the movie The Innocents / Les Innocentes directed by Anne Fontaine and starring Agata Kulesza and Agata Buzek. This 2016 deeply moving drama takes place in 1945 Poland where a young French Red Cross doctor comes to help Benedictine sisters after their convent was "liberated" by the Red Army. Ms. Fontaine's other films include Coco Before Chanel.

 

Where: on June 2 at 7 pm at SIFF Cinema Uptown, on Jun 4 at 8:45 pm at Kirkland Performance Center; tickets $13 / $11

 June 1 & 2, 9 am - 5 pm: Consular Visit to Seattle at the Polish Cultural Center

The Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Los Angeles kindly informs that the consular visit to Seattle to process passport applications only is scheduled for June 1 & 2, 2016. The Consul will be available at the Polish Cultural Center from 9 am to 5 pm both days by reservation only. To make a reservation send an email to [email protected] stating your name, DOB, the PESEL number and a preferred time.

   

Where: at the Polish Cultural Center Dom Polski in Seattle, WA; reservations required.
