Dec 31, 7 pm - 2 am: New Year’s Eve Party at the Polish Cultural Center

Red Carpet Extravaganza! is the theme of the yearly New Year's Eve party at the Polish Cultural Center. The ball will be at the upper hall, black tie optional. The attractions include live music by Polonus (Filip & Ola), plus a mix form CDs by Filip. Doors open at 7 pm, sit down dinner at 8 pm,  dancing from 9 pm to 2 am. Baby sitting service downstairs from 7 pm to midnight.

 

Where: at the Polish Cultural Center; tickets $65 per person (members) & $90 (non-members), babysitting $10 per child; make checks to PHA

More: for reservations contact Lucyna Blonska at (206) 764 7057. Reservations need to be paid for by Dec 25, otherwise become void. No tickets sold at the door. This is not a BYOB and you cannot bring your own alcohol to the party. Event poster here.

Dec 23 & 25: Polish Cultural Center closed for Christmas

The Polish Cultural Center in Seattle is closed for Christmas on December 23 & 25, and for the New Year holiday on January 1, 2012. The Polish Home will be back to business from January 6, 2012.

Dec 17, 11 am: Polish Story Time Poczytajka at the Polish Cultural Center

The Library at the Polish Cultural Center invites you to the Polish Story TimePoczytajki for the youngest members of the Polish community.  In this meeting: playing, dancing and drawing along with reading and all of it in Polish. You can also borrow Polish children books & movies for an evening reading or watching. Organized by Monika Oczkowska-McNeal and the Polish Library. You can find more on Poczytajka here.

Dec 10, 9 pm: Paper-cutting workshops at the Polish Cultural Center

This session is great for intermediate to advanced skill levels. Get more experience in the old art of Polish paper-cutting and learn advanced tips and techniques to complete your own wycinanki projects. The session covers circular gwiazdy (star) style with 8-folded design. Develop your own design as you learn how to keep everything in one piece!

  

Where: at the Polish Cultural Center / Polish Home; from 9 pm to 12 noon; $25 fee covers all the materials for the workshop. Cutting tools will be available during the class.

Dec 7, 6:30 pm: Paper-cutting workshops at the Polish Cultural Center

The Wycinanki workshops, so popular in the last season, have returned! Come experience the old art of Polish paper cutting and learn about this beautiful art form along with tips and techniques to complete your own wycinanki projects. This session focuses on the beautiful leluye style with one fold in the design.  Design templates are provided as guides or for inspiration. This is a great introductory class.

  

Where: at the Polish Cultural Center / Polish Home; from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm; $15 fee covers all the materials for the workshop. Cutting tools will be available during the class.

Dec 4, 2:30 pm: St. Nicolas party at the Polish Cultural Center

This is another Mikolajki party for kids, organized by the Polish Cultural Center. The program includes Jaselka - a nativity play in Polish presented by the PCC Youth Theater Group Teatrzyk Biedronka under direction of Barbara Strutynski. There will be a friendly competition for all children to perform a carol or say a little poem for awards. A Santa Claus visit will be a highlight of the event. The restaurant will be open from 1 pm to 4 pm.

Dec 3-4: Polish Christmas Tree at the 25th Festival of Trees in Tacoma

Polish National Alliance Lodge #156 is sponsoring a Polish Christmas Tree Wesolych Swiat, Polish for Merry Christmas at the Festival of Trees in Tacoma. The Festival, a benefit for Mary Bridge Children's Hospital, is a very popular yearly event; the last one featured over 60 trees from different countries viewed by 12,000 people. The Polish Tree this year is designed by a professional Festival designer, Ms. Hally Phillips.

 

Where: at the Greater Tacoma Convention Center in Tacoma, WA; admission for viewing $6 regular, $2 discounted, children  up to 12 free; viewing 10 am-3 pm on Sat Dec 3, and 11 am-4 pm on Sun Dec 4.

Dec 3, 6 pm: St. Nicolas party in Bellevue

This is a Mikolajki party, organized by the Polish School in Bellevue. The detailed program is a surprise but it is Christmas related and it includes a traditional Santa Claus visit, sharing of Christmas wafers and sweat treats, as well as signing of Polish carols with live music provided by musician friends and students. Every child is welcomed!

Till Dec 9: Maria Sklodowska-Curie Exhibition at the University of Washington

This exhibit celebrates the Year of Maria Sklodowska-Curie at the University of Washington. Marie Curie, nee Maria Sklodowska, was a pioneer researcher in radioactivity and chemistry, discoverer of elements polonium and radium and the only person who received the Nobel price twice, in 1903 and 1911. The exhibition is sponsored by the Consulate General of Poland in Los Angeles, the Consulate General of France in Los Angeles and UW PSEC.

Please note: the end date has changed, the exhibit will be taken down late afternoon on Dec 9.

 

Where: North Lobby, Allen Library at the UW campus in Seattle, admission free during library hours.
