New Year's Party


Dec 31, 7 pm - 2 am: New Year’s Eve Party at the Polish Cultural Center

This is the yearly New Year's Eve party organized by the Polish Home Association, featuring a double ticket: a more formal party at the upper hall with music by DJ Filip, and a younger crowd party at the lower hall with music by DJ Wojtek. Sit down dinner at 8 pm, music from 9 pm to 1 am.

 

Where: at the Polish Cultural Center Dom Polski; tickets $65 PHA members, $80 non-members. Reservations & checks due by December 25, 2013. No tickets will be sold at the door.

Dec 27, 6 pm: Christopher Vened in Human Identity in Portland

Human Identity is an "inventive, funny and eye-opening" one man show by the Los Angeles-based writer and performer Christopher Vened. Mr. Vened, born Krzysztof Szwaja, is an actor trained in the famous Henryk Tomaszewski Pantomime Theatre in Wroclaw, Poland, where he played many leading roles.

Dec 22-30: Polish Cultural Center closed for Christmas  

The Polish Home and the restaurant will be closed for Christmas from Dec 22 till the end of the year. The last opportunity to have a nice Polish dinner there is on December 20, 2013. The Polish restaurant opens for business as usual on January 3, 2014.

Dec 21, from 8 pm: Matt Strutynski Sings at Sebi's

Polish owned Sebi's Bistro presents an evening with Matt Strutynski. Matt is a Folk Pop singer  and songwriter who also plays on multiple instruments. Find him on YouTube! At Sebi's he will sing and play his acoustic guitar. Music from 8 pm to 10:30 pm, the restaurant is open till midnight.

Dec 21, 6 pm: St. Stanislaus Choir at the Grotto in Portland

As is the tradition, the St. Stanislaus Choir will sing Polish carols at the Festival of Lights at the Grotto in Portland. The Grotto Festival features dozens choral concerts and is a wonderful opportunity to listen to Christmas music from different countries, including Poland.

Dec 19 - Feb 14: A. Lahti at a Group Exhibition in Edmonds

Meditation in Green

ArtsNow Gallery in Edmond Conference Center invites you to the Come out of the Dark: A Multi-Cultural Winter Solstice group exhibition running for the next two months. Among other artists, Alisa Lahti presents three of her magnificent cutout based work of arts. Stop by at the Opening Reception for Artists on Dec 19 from 5 - 8 pm in conjunction with the Edmonds Monthly Third Thursday Art Walk.

Dec 15, 2:30 pm: St. Nicholas party at the Polish Cultural Center

This is another Mikolajki party for kids, organized by the Polish Cultural Center. There will be a friendly competition for all children to perform a carol or say a little poem for awards. A Santa Claus visit will be a highlight of the event. The restaurant will be open from 1 pm to 4 pm.

Dec 14, 6 pm: St. Nicholas Party at the Polish School in Bellevue

This is a Mikolajki party, organized by the Polish School in Bellevue. The program includes traditional Jaselka (a Nativity based performance by the students of the school), a Santa Claus visit, sharing of Christmas wafers and sweat treats, as well as signing of Polish carols with live music provided by musician friends and students. Every child is welcomed!

Dec 8, 3 pm: Fundraising Concert for a Kenya Orphanage at the Polish Cultural Center

Rainbow of Magnolia Fountains of Life & Chopin Academy of Music invite you to a fundraising concert to build an orphanage and a well in a Masai village in Kenya. The program includes Beethoven's sonata in D Major, Bach's prelude and fugue in D Minor,  Chopin's scherzo no.1, Liszt's Mephisto waltz and Prokofiev's sonata no. 2. Performers include pianists Ivona Kaminska & Christopher Bowlby as well as star students & award winners Robert Yan, Jay Grinolds, Arthur Yan, Meili Zhang & Leah Deobald.

Dec 6, 3 pm: Basia Bulat & Cate La Bon in Concert at Barboza

Basia Bulat

Basia Bulat is a Canadian pop singer and songwriter who returns to Seattle after her successful debut at the Triple Door in 2008 and a later concert at Tractor Tavern. The show includes songs from her new album Tall Tall Shadow. The concert at Barboza is a double ticket with Cate Le Bon and Kevin Morby also performing.

Dec 3, 7 pm: Meet the Author: Louise Steinman at Elliot Bay Book Co.

Elliot Bay Book Co. invites everybody to a meet-the-author with Louise Steinman who will be reading from her new book The Crooked Mirror: A Memoir of Polish-Jewish Reconciliation. Ms. Steinman is a writer whose work frequently deals with memory, history and reconciliation. The book chronicles her growing understanding of multiple facets of Polish-Jewish relationship and appreciation for efforts of contemporary Poles to remember the past and the common entwined history.

Dec 1, 11 am to 2 pm: Fundraising Luncheon for M. Andrzejowiec at St. Margaret's

Malgorzata Andrzejowiec

Family and friends of Malgorzata Andrzejowiec invite you to a fundraising lunch at the Polish Parish. This is a family style lunch / dinner with the following menu choices: 1) potato pancakes in Hungarian style w/  pickled cucumbers 2) gulash w/ buckwheat and beets and 3) meat pierogi. Homemade cakes as well as tea & coffee will also be available. The money goes towards medical cost related to Mrs. Andrzejowiec's pancreas cancer treatment. Everybody is invited, additional contributions are appreciated very much!

 

Where: St. Margaret’s Catholic Church in Seattle; after both Polish masses that is from about 11 am to 2 pm, dinner $10, desserts separately.
